Happy hour...

Last night I went to Happy Hour at Voodoo with some of my favorite gentlemen. Here are two things I said, that happened to be perfect "that's what she said" moments...

Me: Hey Bryan, if I make my Tac-Oh no!
Bryan: What were you about to say?
Me: If I make my taco dance, will you eat it?

Kris: What are you doing?
Me: I'm trying to make sure it gets past my teeth.

I also happened to coin a new phrase: Whiskey Clit.

Katie

Oh where, oh where will I be??

As the new year approaches, I find that I am absolutely no closer to answering that question. Where am I now? Charleston. Where will I be in April? NO CLUE!!!

I've been chatting up marketing people around the U.S. All are saying new positions will be starting around April... none knowing exactly what those positions will be... all saying that I'm a candidate.

So, the answer right now appears to be... I might be in: Menlo Park, San Francisco, Charleston, New York City, Washington D.C., or Boston. If your city is not on that list, like I'm guessing my Philly friends are noticing, I'm working on it! Feel free to chat up your business contacts on LinkedIn and ask them if they're looking to add some new blood to their team. I've now got experience under my belt!!!

Anyway, nice thing is that no matter where I am from that list, I'm pretty positive I'll be having a fabulous time. If it weren't for the fact that I happen to be a crazy planner, and like to know exactly what's going to happen several months in advance, I'd be much more excited about this. (Hmmm... I think I just solved a dating mystery of mine... interesting.)

Runners Up...

Here are some of the other photos submitted last week. I loved them all, so I figured I'd give a few of them a taste of the limelight before announcing this week's theme.

First... a fantastic t-shirt...

Best Breakfast Idea Since PopTarts

Then... some of our marsupial friends...

Watch out! Koalas can actually be quite ferocious.

An Italian favorite...

The meatballs worry me a bit.

And finally... some of our favorite frigid friends!!

Is it just me, or are his buttons sticking out??!!

This week's theme is going to be a little different. In honor of New Year's, I'm going to ask for the most deliciously alcoholic cupcake recipes you can find. (Remember my Irish Car Bomb cupcakes?) Pick your favorite liquor, and have at it!!

Katie

AND THE WINNER IS.....

Fantastic Cupcake Infomercial!!!!!!

What???!!! It's not a photo of a cupcake???!!! Watch, and you'll soon find out why this won. This is fantastic... although I don't want one in the least. It totally screws up the cake-to-frosting ratio that I love so much.

I'm going to post all of the other fantastic submissions on Monday with the announcement of next week's theme... because this stupid computer won't upload the photos.

LOVE YOU GUYS!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.....

I have managed to find internet using my dad's wireless card on his laptop. It happens, however, to be the slowest internet since dial-up. This is driving me absolutely mad!!

Here's a quick thought from today: Why would the people at Blackberry approve of very feminine smileys for their messenger? I've found it very hard not to laugh every time one of my guy friends uses one. Also... why would they have them be so small? Many times it's hard to tell exactly how the smiley is feeling, unless it's bright red. (That's anger for you boys and girls that are falling behind.) I'm perplexed.

Regarding tomorrow's cupcake contest results... I will be downloading the photos onto my Dad's computer tonight in order to hopefully ensure the fastest upload possible tomorrow. Let's hope it works!

Seaweed Surprise!

The only problem I have with these cupcakes is that I feel like my brain and taste buds would be at odds...

It doesn't seem like it would be fun to be thinking fish but tasting chocolate. But, what do I know?

Love,
Katie

Cross your fingers...

In 50 minutes I will be on the road to a place where I might not have access to the internet. Let us all cross our fingers in hopes that I will be able to find a computer to post Friday's winner. All together now!! Middle over index, and think good thoughts!!!

Ode to Tylenol Cold...

To the tune of "Le Disko" by Shiny Toy Guns.

Hello little pills, little thrills
Can't believe what you're doing
Stopping all the snot
From running down my face
1/2 an hour, drink some tea
Feel the healin' sensation
Aint life sweet...
With tylenol

Now take me every 4 hours
If you wanna breathe
I'm gonna ease the pressure baby
Right above your eyes

We're gonna watch some movies
We're gonna drink some O.J.
We'll feel much better
With over-the-counter drugs

Sorry readers... I'm incredibly sick today.

Spreading the Cupcake Warfare...

Kelley, Rachael, and Max have inspired me. I am hereby opening the cupcake competition to all of my readers!!!!! Here's how it's going to work... I've got a handy dandy email address for the blog - nerdyfitness@gmail.com - where you can send photos of the awesome cupcakes you find throughout the week. I'll peruse them, and after some serious consideration, the winner will be posted every Friday. GLORY WILL BE ALL YOURS!!!!!!

All that I ask, my loves, is that you don't do what Max did, and send me a dirty photograph that happens to have store-bought cupcakes in it. It was witty... I mean... the tag-line did say, "Look! Cupcakes!" and the one woman could have been forcing the other to look at the cupcakes with one hand, if it weren't for the fact that the other hand had managed to disappear in a way that I can only hope doesn't break rule #5 on my list. *shudder*

So, let's go for something more along the lines of the brilliance that Kelley and Rachael exhibited this week. Or, take this as inspiration:

I suggest searching as a means of procrastinating at work... it's a fantastic way to pass the day. Now...

GET TO IT!!!!

Love,
Katie

The word of the day...

Hello Kiddies!!

The word of the day is... BALANCE!

I actually mean this in a few ways, as it was inspired by my shoes: 4 1/2 inch snakeskin peep-toe pumps. First sense is obviously physical balance - as I've realized that I can now comfortably perch myself on scary-high stilettos. A girl once told me that you know you need to be wearing lower heels when your stiletto wears on an angle. I am proud to report to all of you that my heels wear evenly... there's no awkward heel tilt as I set one foot in front of the other. No one is walking behind me counting the steps before my ankle buckles, and I have to do the few running steps before pretending like nothing happened. (Which, by the way... I don't do. If my ankle buckles, I steady myself and then chuckle... I feel like honesty is the best policy when it comes to things that EVERYONE saw.)

Second sense starts with my outfit in general. While putting on my heels today, I came to a realization. In order to wear them and not look like my unpaid internship is being subsidized by "extracurricular activities," I needed to cover myself in a long cardigan and put a headband in my hair. In other words, to twist the line from Tropic Thunder, "You never go full hooker." And so, as I was trying to dance the line between adorable-with-some-killer-heels and street-walker-with-expensive-shoes, I came to the realization that my appearance tends to be the only part of my life in which I truly toe the line. For example(s): if I'm wearing a simple necklace, I pair it with more extravagant earrings... If my outfit is super casual, I make sure to wear my hair down... Hair up in a ponytail, and I spend more time on my makeup. And yet... dear readers... alcohol, working out, my internship, boys - just about everything else is kind of an homage to O-Town's "All or Nothing." (You know you're humming it to yourself now.)

So... the third sense has to do with life balance, but relies heavily on the previous wisdom gleamed from fashion. I mean, it stands to reason that my ability to edit should be transferable to other scenarios, given slight modifications. For instance... I could think of food the way that Coco Chanel thinks of accessories: "Before attacking the kitchen table at the office, load up on all the things you want, and then put one thing back." Or alcohol could be like how I plan out my more "edgy" outfits - making sure to have an appropriate blend of the hard (alcohol) and soft (drink). Really, it could work with everything... (I've got an example for boys, but I feel like they might be offended by the oversimplification.) My internship could even be equated to those times when you decide to do go all out with make-up and hair, only to wish that you had just tossed your hair up in a bun and smacked on some mascara - even though the first was probably overkill and the second means you're not getting anyone's number. I have yet to find a scenario that can't be solved with a fashion/beauty metaphor.

I think I've stumbled upon something big... don't you agree?

Love,
Katie

BAH!!!

My recent phone interview just made me want to eat every single cupcake that has ever been posted on my blog... twice!!

Why do I know the population of California and the population of the world, but not the population of the United States?? WHY HAS MY EDUCATION FAILED ME??!!!

FUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!

My first interview went well... and I have another one this afternoon with a different person in the company... number 2 is going to bug me forever, though.

BAH!
Katie

Dahlia Lama...

The other day a friend texted me saying that he had a quote that I would like. His phone corrected his spelling, so he sent me a message saying, "There's a Dahlia Lama quote that I was going to send you, but I can't find it." Well... it turns out it was a Ghandi quote, but it did inspire my first venture into photoshop. I present you, ladies and gentlemen, with the Dahlia Lama...

Hahaha... I crack myself up. Oh, and the Ghandi quote:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Love,
Katie

Uh oh...

Yet another person is leaving the company... my favorite one, at that. (Besides my buddy Genna.) This is making me think I should really try and ace my interviews today...

Love,
Katie

Catch me if you can!!!!!!!

Mwahahaha... people in the office are trying to find my blog. I just read them the reasons why I don't want kids, and all the parents in the office want to comment about how wrong I am. What they don't know is that I've got another 20+ reasons to toss at them... Bring it coworkers, bring it! That is... if you can find me!!!

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Katie

Love Story...

No, this is not where I post the lyric's to Taylor Swift's song...

I would just like to thank the loves of my life, who are willing to insult other people in order to make me feel better. You all know that I'd help you bury a body, right?

Love,
Katie

Since I mentioned it...

I've been singing it in my head all day... so I just had to post the full lyrics... well, up until he starts repeating himself... Sing along!!!

I'm Not Surprised
Not Everything Lasts
I've Broken My Heart So Many Times,
I Stopped Keeping Track.
Talk Myself In
I Talk Myself Out
I Get All Worked Up
Then I Let Myself Down.

I Tried So Very Hard Not To Lose It
I Came Up With A Million Excuses
I Thought I Thought Of Every Possibility

(Chorus)

And I Know Someday That It'll All Turn Out
You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid That I'll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

I Might Have To Wait
I'll Never Give Up
I Guess It's Half Timing
And The Other Half's Luck
Wherever You Are
Whenever It's Right
You'll Come Out Of Nowhere And Into My Life

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Baby Your Love Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Possibility

(Chorus)

They Say All's Fair
And In Love And War
But I Won't Need To Fight It
We'll Get It Right
And We'll Be United

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Being In Your Life Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Single Possibility

(Chorus)

And now, of course, the collective: "Awwwww..."

Love,
Katie

P.S. Yes, Maddie. I am aware that Michael Bublé is, in reality, a douche. I'm going to hope that he didn't actually write this song, for the sake of my soul. Although, he did write "Everything," so... you never know.

P.P.S. Boys... don't take this personally... there isn't a song out there I can find that says: "Maybe I've met you. I'm not quite sure, but if it is you, I'm totally psyched!"

Mental Juke Box

So, last night while softly singing all the songs that popped into my head to my fellow intern (we were both very bored at my father's public meeting) I realized that my mind jumps everywhere. Here's a sampling:
  • Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
  • Alouette
  • Frère Jacques... okay... that's a logical jump.
  • Crazy - Patsy Cline version
  • Immigrant's Tale - Led Zeppelin
  • Evacuate the Dance Floor - Cascada
  • Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Bublé
    • Side note: This song has been my theme song du jour off-and-on for the past month. I've been thinking about putting good quotes from it into my blog... but really the whole song works. For those of you that know me, though... I'm sure you'd agree with the part that says: "I talk myself in. I talk myself out. I get all worked up, then I let myself down." Sound like me just about every week or so?? Yeah... thought so... I'm a fickle pickle.
  • Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpions
  • Strokin - Clarence Carter
I won't keep going... because I've noticed that I've been doing a fair amount of lists recently. However, what this brings to mind is the fact that I can never really answer the question: "What kind of music do you listen to?" The answer is... I listen to whatever my brain tells me to listen to... it's random... it's eclectic... and it never turns off.  iTunes be damned!!! My memory has a much better shuffle!!

I Feel Pretty

Okay... my song won't be like this... but I had forgotten how fantastic this clip is from Anger Management.

Enjoy!

Somber thoughts...

Ever have one of those days where you find yourself sitting and contemplating all of the wrong decisions you've made over the past 6 months?? It's not that you don't necessarily like where it's led you... there's just the nagging thought of how it might have been different. Yeah... I'm having one of those days.

Words to live by...

If I could choose to hang out with anyone... it would be the Dalai Lama. I feel like we would have one heck of a time. I don't think the man has ever said a single thing I disagree with, and his presence radiates the most wonderful joy (even through the television screen... which is sadly all I've got). Here are some of his quotes that I found... The man is just unbelievable. I suggest you ruminate on these for a bit.

- All major religious traditions carry basically the same message - that is love, compassion and forgiveness. The important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.
- Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.
- Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
- I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.
- If you have a particular faith or religion, that is good. But you can survive without it.
- If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
- In the practice of tolerance, one's enemy is the best teacher.
- It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them.
- It is very important to generate a good attitude, a good heart, as much as possible. From this, happiness in both the short term and the long term for both yourself and others will come.
- Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.
- My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.
- Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day.
- Sleep is the best meditation.
- Sometimes one creates a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes one creates as significant an impression by remaining silent.
- The purpose of our lives is to be happy.
- The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.
- The ultimate authority must always rest with the individual's own reason and critical analysis.
- There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness.
- We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection.
- We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.
- Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace.
- Whether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn't anyone who doesn't appreciate kindness and compassion.
- With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world.

Hmmm...

I just caught someone in my office putting sugar in his coke zero... we have regular coca cola in our soda machine. I'm confused.

Movies...?

So, it has become extremely clear to me that I have missed out on some very important movies. Most notably this time of year... The Christmas Story. Despite the fact that it runs on loop every Christmas, I have never seen it. Apparently this is a faux pas of the most extreme in nature.

Anyway, what I figured I'd do is make a list of some of my favorite movies, and then you all can tell me yours in the comments section (don't you go emailing/facebooking/etc me... we're going to SHARE.) Together we can make magic happen... or at least come up with some must-see-movies so that I can stop looking like such a nit-wit.

Here are some of my all-time faves (in alphabetical order):

10 Things I Hate About You - Just in case you were ever wondering if you can, "just be whelmed."

Big Fish - The first movie to ever make me cry. So. Freaking. Touching.

The Boondock Saints - Who doesn't love men with accents shooting bad guys?? Tell me, who??

Capote - Deeply disturbing in the absolute best of ways.

City of God - This movie will break your heart.

The Departed - I think I would watch this movie just for Mark Wahlberg's character. BAD. ASS.

Dogma - I swear this movie started me on my path to atheism.

Fight Club - I will not break Rule #1.

Finding Nemo - "I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my squishy." No more needs to be said.

The Hangover - There is something magical about the epic things men come up with while drunk.

The Illusionist - Magic, Action, Romance... Edward Norton.

Life as a House - Hayden Christiansen actually does an amazing job acting in this one. I KNOW!! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!

Little Miss Sunshine - For all the fabulously awkward little girls in the world.

Love Actually - I don't think there's a single female that wouldn't put this movie on their list of faves.

A League of Their Own - I watched this movie about 15 times when I was younger. I'm still shocked that Madonna was in it... let alone with her natural hair color.

Milk - Second movie to ever make me cry, and I did it both times. The candlelight vigil makes me weep like a baby.

The Neverending Story - EPIC.

The Notebook - I've gotten to the point where I have seen it enough to fast-forward through the old people parts... I just love watching people fall in love.

Office Space - Best scene in almost any movie I have ever seen is the one where they bash in the copier/fax machine.

Oldboy - This was my introduction to Korean horror... there's a scene where the dude battles thugs in a hallway that is just too awesome for words.

Pride and Predjudice... any version - A love based upon quick-witted, mutual mockery? YES PLEASE!!

The Princess Bride - I know a woman who dated Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya). This was, however, when he was about 12-years-old. Still cool, though.

Saved! - Mandy Moore's portrayal of an evangelical Christian who loses sight of the message she's truly supposed to be spreading is, well, hilarious. I also love the fact that Macaulay Culkin came back from his acting purge for the role of Roland.

Shakespeare in Love - The scene where Shakespeare undoes Viola de Lessups' bindings... causes... inappropriate desires.

Some Like it Hot - I happen to really love Marilyn Monroe... and the fact that this movie came out in the 50's blows my mind. Hey Mal, wanna watch this with me again?

Thelma & Louise - These broads are amazing. It also doesn't hurt that there's a half-naked young Brad Pitt traipsing about... even if he does steal from the ladies.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything (Julie Newmar) - Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo in drag. It's absolutely an hour and a half well spent.

V for Vendetta - No matter how much I love this movie for the story, imagery, and brilliant acting... I still come away from it thinking about how much I wish I looked as hot bald as Natalie Portman.

Wedding Crashers - Men doing crazy things for sex... how can it not be hilarious??

Wet Hot American Summer - If only every summer camp were this awesome...

Y tu mamá también - This is a movie where you start out wondering why the heck everyone raves about it... but by the time the credits roll, you realize that you've just witnessed something truly genius.

I am positive that I have left out some crucial movies... but I can always have another blog post. Now... respond!!

Love,
Katie
